Science, Art, Music: A bottomless swamp

Coffee and I.

Well, the very first entry of this blog is on coffee.

You'd be like, "what? what about science? art? and all of those things you talked about in about this blog? Is that all lies to attract the readers?"

Well, they are not, but that's who I am. I am the person who writes about coffee when the big picture is on some other deep and rather complicated stuff.

I've been drinking water for almost 24 years, but I've known the taste of coffee for only 10 or so years, so I'm not an expert on it. Forgive me if I've written something false.

WHAT IS COFFEE!?

Well, I know what coffee is, if you don't know, just google it. That's what the thing you are looking at is for. Anyways, I remember drinking coffee when I lived in San Francisco when I was 12. At that time, I did drink coffee but not always, and in restaurants I proffered drinking something else than a cup of coffee. I think my way to go beverage for the everyday life was tea of various kinds but not coffee.

Well, of course, I has always been a man of science (I hope), so of course, when I see something exotic and smells funny but everyone drinks, I'd be like, why not and try one. Of course, with a lot of milk, I drunk and immediately fell in love with it (to be fair, I still love tea as well). The habit of putting milk has continued since then. I never really liked (or tried) drinking a cup of coffee without putting any milk. The time went by and I moved to Australia to do my undergraduate degree, and yeah I found this thing called flat white and of course, for a milk and coffee lover, it captured my heart immediately and with this discovery, I fell in love with the country.

The muddy water really helped me through the undergraduate years, I sometime spent a day drinking only coffee (I don't recommend doing that. Coffee requires a lot of energy to digest so you'll feel tired at the end of the day), and it has been helping me through the PhD more than anything else (except for my brain, this little guy has always been the MVP of my life haha) I must admit.

How to make a cup of Coffee

Well, from a paper filter to a capsule espresso machine, I've tried so many different ways to make a cup of coffee myself (of course if I include the once I can buy in a store god knows how many ways to make one).

What is the best way?

The thing is that it depends on the mood really. I would usually go with macchinetta because that is the one in the kitchen (well, it's easier to clean than English press, no paper waste unlike paper filtered ones, and not as expensive as all the machines), but who knows, some days I'm lazy and just go to the nearest coffee shop and grab a flat white with perhaps a muffin (thank Australians for making flat white a thing across the world!). I even like the canned coffee you can buy from the Japanese convenience stores in some occasions, I mean I respect the creators of those for making a cup of coffee so convenient to everyone.

Coffee and Science

To (never) be written...

What's the point of this article?

Yeah, as you can see, I don't give a damn about many things, even about many things with regards coffee, a coffee story is a best way to convey this point. To me, coffee is something I drink, and it is a go to drink because I like the scent, taste, and the energy it gives me afterwords. If coffee becomes illegal from tomorrow morning, (or in a second), I would continue my life as before drinking something else, something more healthy to my liver I hope, but I will definitely be sad because I like drinking coffee. But yeah, at the end, all that's important is, "I like coffee!" and what more do you need really.
